County Commissioners

From Peachtree Corners

(Redirected from Planning Commission)

The Board sets direction and formulates policies for the county government, adopts the budget, authorizes expenditures, and approves or disapproves specific actions, such as rezoning of private property.

Voters in each of four districts elect a part-time District Commissioner. The full-time Commission Chairman is elected countywide. Terms are for four years, but staggered so the chairman and two commissioners are elected during one election cycle and two years later the other two commissioners are elected.

Upcoming and Past Meetings of Interest

Tuesday, June 20, 2006 - Chris Sheldon, River Valley Estates homeowner association president, will be present on behalf of the neighborhood.

Since there have been no incidents to not allow the SUP to not continue, is is agreed upon that the Special Use Permit (SUP) will be kept in place.

The issue at hand is the "sunset", where they must reapply for the SUP. It is my understanding the owners of the property, Racebrook, do not want another sunset. However, we have asked for a 4 to 5 year sunset since the property is owned by a corporation and the current residents could change over the next few years. The Planning Commision will recommend a sunset of 4 to 5 years to the County Commisioners. Chris will be present at the meeting tonight to confirm the sunset recommendation.

You are not required to attend tonight since the only issue is the "sunset" which has been discussed at length with our county commisioner, Bert Nasuti, the planning commisioners and Wayne Knox of United Peachtree Corners Civic Association. Again, Chris will be there on our behalf. However, if you do want to travel up to Lawrenceville tonight at the Gwinnett government building, the planning meeting starts at 7pm. Our issue is #17 on the list, so you will be there for a while before we do get heard.

Tuesday, June 27, 2006 - the County Commisioners meeting - again at 7pm at the Gwinnett Government Building. We will again have a representation at that meeting to ensure we get on the record that we want a sunset.

Meetings

The Board holds official business meetings the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 2:00pm. On those days, the Board conducts work sessions at 10:00am. The Board also holds a public hearing to consider zoning requests on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm. These meetings are held in the auditorium of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center. On many Tuesdays, the Board conducts informal discussions with county departments and community groups. These meetings are held in the conference room of the Board of Commissioners suite. Informal discussions as well as official meetings are always open to the public.
